A growing number of businesses are doing away with entry level positions as technology takes their places.  These are positions where in the past, entry level applicants got their feet wet learning the ins and outs of the business world.

You might ask why are so many companies opting out of on-boarding for these spots?  Could it be that they are nervous that the investment into these trainees could turn and walk out the door.  Taking what they have learned to their competitors.

It's not just an issue for Fortune 500 companies either, Restaurant chains and retail stores are following suite.

Another cause for this disappearing act is newer software.  Companies have realized that they can do more with less.  Consolidating departments, and then hiring out the work to Temporary agencies to fill the void.  The same amount of work gets done, while they pay is less.  It's not ideal but its the world in which we live!

So you may ask, "what can I do to stand out?"

Find a skillset that is unique to you that offers a benefit to the company and sell the hell outta yourself.

Employers want someone who they feel brings something to the table, or adds value to the team.  You have to stand out in today's job market.
